Sunday Social

Sunday Social

1. What is your favorite Social Media outlet? I am a Facebook addict and I freely admit it. Jonathan hates it and keeps saying he's going to delete his account but I won't let him. I recently started using Twitter a little more as well.

2. Do you subscribe to any daily news reads? If so which ones? I don't subscribe to any. I follow a local paper on Twitter but that's about it.

3. Favorite Magazine to have by the pool? I'm not a magazine lover. I'd rather have my Kobo loaded up with a trashy romance when I'm by the pool.

4. Favorite summertime song? I'm not sure about my favourite "summer song" but the song I find myself turning up and singing along to right now is Here's to Never Growing Up by Avril Lavigne. When we're hanging out on the patio or by the pool I generally like to listen to the stuff I listened to in high school, there's no one song that really says SUMMER to me.

5. Best Summer concert you’ve been to? For years my friend Beth and I headed to PEI for the Charlottetown Festival of Lights concerts. We saw a bunch of great bands, from Lifehouse to 3 Days Grace to Hedley. Collectively they're all my favourite summer concert.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Friday's Letters

Photobucket

Dear Spring; Please stop being a tease. I would really like more than one warm, sunny day every week. If April showers bring May flowers then what do May showers bring? Hopefully something good! Dear Work; Last week wasn't so good. Hopefully we've got everything back on track now. I think we do, I feel like I worked my butt off this week. Dear Sydney; You are an indoor cat. Please stop trying to sneak out every time I open the door. I'm not sure what I would do if you ran away. When the weather is nice I promise to take you out on your leash so you can get a little fresh air. Dear Husband; I'm so glad you're finally feeling better. I know that cold really kicked your butt - I don't think I've ever seen you quite so miserable. Let's do something fun this weekend, k? Dear Sunburn; You suck and you're making my arms really hurt. But I have no one to blame but myself. Hopefully this time I've learned my lesson.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Thursday Thoughts

Thursday Thoughts

  • How is it that there is only one day of May left? I seriously don't understand where this year has gone. I started out the year with so many goals and plans and I feel like I haven't accomplished anything over the past five months. I better get cracking if I'm going to get all the books read and movies watched I wanted to. I think I've given up on recipes.
  • I managed to get my first sun burn of the season yesterday. It was the first really nice, really sunny, really warm day we've had all spring so Daisy and I went and spent the morning on my parents' deck. Someday I'll learn that I need to wear sun screen... Hopefully before I end up with skin cancer or something.
  • I really need a new blog layout. But I don't really know what I want, and I can't really afford to pay for one. I was hoping my brother was going to get me Paint Shop or Photo Shop for my birthday so I could make my own again but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Should have gotten it for myself instead of getting my hair done. (My hair does look pretty adorable though.)
  • I need to learn to take constructive criticism better. I had a visit from a "specialist" at work last week and it didn't go nearly as well as I would have liked. I took it really personally and went home quite upset. I'm used to being good at what I do, and I'm not used to be the person in-charge. Going to be a bit of an adjustment, but I just have to buckle down and make the changes she asked me to and remember that it wasn't a personal attack and that she was trying to help.
  • Jonathan and I have discovered Sherlock. I have a really short attention span, so 90 minute episodes were an adjustment, but I highly recommend it. It's something a bit different. We're starting season 2 now and I'm pretty excited.
  • I need to stop watching cooking shows. We love Hell's Kitchen, and now Master Chef has started too. And we're watching Top Chef Canada. All I want to do when I watching them is eat! But I'm totally addicted...

Back for Good

I have been a bad blogger. I unintentionally took a month long hiatus. (Oops!) I'm hoping that I am back for good this time. It's not the first time I've said that, but I'm trying to get into more of a routine at home and at work. And I want to make sure I make some time for things just for me.

I haven't really been up to a whole lot lately. I took a week of vacation in the middle of May. Just a "staycation" that I had planned to use to get some house cleaning done. I just needed a break from work. I didn't get much cleaning done, and I ended up spending two and a half days at work anyways. (Fail.)

I celebrated my 31st birthday on the 12th. It was also Mother's Day and my friend Kyla's wedding, so it wasn't much of a "me" day but it was a good day.

I've actually watched a fair number of movies recently. One of my goals for this year was to watch 24 movies. I was way off track and then over the past couple weeks Jonathan and I have watched a bunch. We watched all three Iron Man movies, plus the Avengers. (I love Tony Stark and Chris Evans is beautiful.) I haven't seen Thor yet, so that's the plan for Friday night. We also went to the new Star Trek movie with my brother and my parents for my birthday. I really enjoyed it as well.

We've been watching some play-off hockey too, but not the NHL. Our local QMJHL team won the President's Cup this past weekend. Jonathan is pretty excited because his NHL team (Colorado) has the top draft pick and it looks like one of our local boys might go first overall.

I read the Beautiful Creatures trilogy by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl this month as well. Not the deepest read, but I thought they were decently written and I enjoyed the story. I can't decide whether I'll see the movie or not. I tend not to enjoy movies if I've read the book. I spent the whole time comparing it to the book, and usually there are things missing. Some important, and some not so important, but it distracts me nonetheless. (Like with The Host - loved the book, and the movie would have been good if I hadn't spent the whole time focusing on the characters who were missing or the fact that I didn't think some of the actors suited the characters.)

I think that's more than enough rambling for today. Hope the weather is as warm and sunny where you are as it is here in Halifax!

Wife to Wife Link-Up - The In-Law Edition

I have to admit that things started out a little bit rocky with my in-laws. For the first two years we were dating Jonathan actually didn't tell them about me. There were a couple different reasons, none of which really matter now. We even broke up about it (for about two hours) at one point. Apparently they asked him if he was dating me, and he denied it. (And yes, I still married him.) The "secret" ended with a confrontation between his mom and I at my checkout at work. It wasn't pretty, but truthfully it needed to happen.

I have a great relationship with my in-laws now. I actually consider myself lucky in that department. There's nothing they wouldn't do for us, and I enjoy spending time with them. We have dinner together every Sunday and my mother-in-law and I chat for hours. Jonathan often jokes that I know more about what's going on with his family than he does. (And he's probably right.)

Oh, How Pinteresting!

It has turned into an absolutely gorgeous day here, I'm so excited! Really wish our barbeque was working. I have shepherd's pie all ready to go in the oven, but it's so not a shepherd's pie kinda night. Oh well, I guess there will be lots of time for barbeques now that the weather is finally coming around.

Once again I spent far too much time on Pinterest this week. But if I didn't, what would I blog about on Wednesday?

Tuesday's Tunes

Sometimes I think my taste in music hasn't evolved since I was 12... For some reason I absolutely love this song. I don't know what it is, but when it comes on in the car I turn it up and sing along at the top of my lungs. Does anybody else have any "guilty pleasure" type songs? I can't be the only one...

Have a great Tuesday everyone!
